Frame and deck
The Fitness Reality Gym Ultra electric treadmill features a heavy-duty construction. With the frame fully assembled, it weighs approx. 267 lbs (121 kg). This means its assembly and transport requires at least two people. However, once the unit is fully assembled, its relocation can be done with ease, as its front base features a set of transport wheels.
Due to its weight, the machine offers impeccable stability. But nonetheless, its rear base also has adjustable, rubberized stabilizers. Thus, you can perfectly level it on any type of floor.
Needless to say, the machine’s structural frame is made of thick steel tubing, with two wide front masts and solid side rails. The rail covers feature a layer of rubberized material to prevent slippage.
The steel parts of the machine feature a corrosion-resistant paint finish. However, most of the base bars have extra ABS covers as well, resulting in a very compact and sleek appearance.
The machine does not have a folding mechanism. Once it is assembled, it remains in the usage position. Evidently, it’s not exactly a small unit. It’s approx. 77″ (195 cm) long, and 32.5″ (83 cm) wide. Plus, you will need to leave at least three feet of clearance at the rear of the deck, and at least two feet of clearance on each side, for safe usage and access.
The Fitness Reality Gym Ultra features an extremely durable deck. It is rated for a user weight capacity of 350 lbs (159 kg). It integrates several shock absorption elements in order to alleviate the impact of each footstrike. Therefore, it provides a more forgiving ride for your joints and back than a run on asphalt or concrete.
The deck features a heavy-duty 3-ply tread belt. It provides a running surface of 60″L x 20.5″W (152.4 x 52 cm). This being said, the unit should be able to accommodate users up to 6’5″ (196 cm), allowing a complete range of motion even if the machine is set to its highest speed.
Incline and step-up height
The Fitness Reality Ultra Gym treadmill features a motorized incline system. It consists of a motor separate from the drive motor and a small lift situated under the front part of the deck. Evidently, the control of the incline system is done from the unit’s console. There are + / – keys for gradual incline adjustment, but the console also has a numeric keypad, so you can quickly select the desired incline level.
The machine makes available 16 levels of incline, from 0% to 15%. The increments are 1%. Also, depending on the program you use, you may either need to adjust the incline manually, or the machine may adjust it automatically.
The deck step-up height is approx 8″ (20.3 cm) when the incline is set at 0%. Conversely, with the incline set at 15%, the front part of the deck will become elevated by several extra inches. Therefore, it is recommended to use the machine in a room with a ceiling height that exceeds your own height by at least 20″ (51 cm).
Drive motor
This Fitness Reality treadmill is equipped with a 4.4 peak horsepower motor which provides excellent traction for the belt, even if the user is close to the specified 350 lbs (159 kg) weight capacity. It is also equipped with a small flywheel in order to minimize vibration and provide a very smooth motion for the belt.
The motor provides a speed range up to 0.5 – 12 MPH. The adjustment increments for the speed are 0.1 MPH. The speed adjusts gradually, allowing you to adjust your pace with ease, without sudden jerks or interruptions.
The console provides + / – buttons for gradual speed adjustment. However, you can also quickly select the desired speed level for the belt from the available numeric keypad
The motor itself is fairly quiet, the level of noise emitted shouldn’t interfere with your TV, the music played through the console or your personal sound system. Most of the sound that you will hear during your running, is the sound of your cadence.
Console
The machine’s console is equipped with multiple LED displays, red on black. The keep track of your most important workout metrics, including time, distance, calories, and pulse. Of course, the current incline and speed levels are shown as well. Plus, the larger LED display in the middle shows the profiles of the program in use and other workout data.
The console cannot be set up to metric units. Therefore, the speed and distance can only be displayed in MPH and miles. For distance, there is a race track function; the track is shown on the larger display and keeps count of the laps you have completed. Each lap is 1/4 miles (400 m).
The console is not telemetric. It does not have an internal HR receiver and cannot read data from a Polar or ANT chest strap transmitter. Therefore, in order to benefit from a pulse reading, you have to hold on to the integrated pulse sensors.
The Fitness Reality Gym Ultra treadmill does not have Bluetooth or online connectivity features, nor it is compatible with any online fitness apps. However, it has several built-in workout programs. To begin with, it has one Manual Quick Start program which gives you the possibility to adjust the incline and speed as you like, from the keypad controls. The next 6 programs are preset, each one specific to a certain workout.
The console also offers 3 Custom Programs and 3 goal settings. Each Custom Program allows you to create your own workout profiles selecting your desired speed and incline settings. Each Custom Program can be saved in the unit’s memory and re-used as many times as you like. The Goal Programs give you the possibility to select a target for time, distance, and calories. Once a target is selected, the console will show the remaining value until you reach the selected goal.
Apart from the fitness programs and the display of the workout metrics, the console also has several other features. These are the sound system, the tablet holder, and the accessory trays.
The sound system consists of two speakers placed one on each side of the console and an AUX port plus cable. Therefore, you can connect your smartphone or tablet to the console and play your music through the integrated speakers. The tablet holder consists of a small shelf placed under the main display of the console. It a tabled is placed on it, it will cover the main display; however, the top smaller displays will still be visible, so you can always view your workout metrics. Finally, the two accessory trays are also placed one on each side of the console, near the speakers. They’re not extremely spacious, but they should accommodate any type of hydration bottle.
Assembly and Maintenance
The machine’s deck with the drive and incline motors, belt, rollers and other elements, is pre-assembled from the factory. Therefore, you only need to attach the two front masts, the handlebars, the console, and several small covers. This shouldn’t take more than an hour. The manual provides step-by-step assembly instructions and the necessary tools for assembly are included.
For maintenance, it is recommended to periodically lubricate the deck. The manual provides instructions for that. Also, it’s recommended to keep the running belt clean, in order to prevent any small objects or textile fibers to be dragged into the motor.
