The Sunny SF-T7857 is one of the new treadmills released by Sunny Health & Fitness in 2019. The machine only offers walking and light jogging speeds. It does not have an incline system and is equipped with a basic console.

Frame and deck

Although it is a basic recovery walking treadmill, the Sunny Health & Fitness SF-T7857 features a fairly sturdy construction. It is designed to support users up to 295 lbs (134 kg). Both its base frame, as well as the sidebars are steel made. The only ABS plastic parts in its construction are the covers of the side rails and the motor cover. All the steel bars are powder coated with a durable paint finish which is resistant to corrosion.

The main feature that puts this machine in the recovery walking category is the set of long sidebars. Each bar is a 2-piece element which connects to the front mast and the to an anchor point at the rear base. Their top section is fully covered by a layer of rubber foam material to provide a better and more comfortable grip. There is also an extra handlebar at the front which offers the possibility to adopt a front parallel or horizontal grip if needed. This bar has the same rubber foam coating as the sidebars.

As opposed to the Sunny SF-T7718, this treadmill does not have a folding design. Once it is assembled, it pretty much remains in the usable position. You cannot fold its deck up.

The fully assembled unit is not as large as other treadmills; however, it still takes approx. 58″L x 29″W (147 x 74 cm) of floor space, to which it is recommended adding a few feet of clearance for safe operation. In general, for every treadmill, it is best to leave at least two feet of clearance on each side, and three feet of clearance at the back of the deck.

Although it’s a treadmill designed for physiotherapy and light cardio workouts, the unit is not exactly light. It weighs approx. 123 lbs (56 kg) which pretty much means it requires two persons for transport and assembly. However, once the unit is fully assembled, it can easily be relocated by using its front wheels.

The unit’s stability is improved by the two adjustable levelers at the rear of the deck. Plus, the front base rests on four large rubber pads. It is recommended, though, to place and use the machine on a rubber mat.

The Sunny Health & Fitness SF-T7857 is equipped with a durable rubber-belt which offers a walking surface of 44″L x 19.5″W (111.7L x 49.5W cm). This should be enough for users up to 6’5″ (196 cm), or even taller, as the machine is only for walking and not running. The size of the internal rollers is not specified, but they have a crowned design and integrate sealed ball bearings to provide a smooth traction and movement to the belt.

The machine’s deck is cushioned. It integrates 8 cushion elements placed 4 on each side of the deck; all of them are concealed by the side rail covers. The two cushions that are placed in the footstrike area are slightly larger, in order to absorb a higher percentage of the shock generated during each footstrike. So, as a general idea, a walk on this treadmill considerably safer for your joints and back than a walk on asphalt or concrete.

Last but not least, the machine does not have an incline system. Also, its deck is low profile. The walking surface is placed at approx. 4.5″ (11.4 cm) above floor level which promotes an easier entry and exit. This can be quite a plus for users with certain disabilities.

Drive motor

The Sunny SF-T7857 is a motorized treadmill. This means it requires an external power circuit. It integrates a motor similar in power to the one on the SF-T7718 model. It offers a 2.5 HP Peak Power output which means that its continuous power is approx. 1.2 CHP. It is powerful enough to support any user up to 295 lbs (134 kg), for prolonged exercising routines, without overheating or losing performance. It also has a built-in flywheel which stabilizes the motion of the belt minimizing vibration.

The motor offers a speed range between 0.6 and 5.0 MPH. The speed can be adjusted from the Up/Down arrow buttons on the console. There are no buttons for quick speed selection, so you can only adjust the speed gradually.

The speed can be adjusted in 0.1 MPH increments. This being said, it gives you the possibility to find the perfect pace for your height and workout intensity. Also, the speed of the belt adjusts gradually and smoothly, without sudden jerking, allowing you to adjust your stride and pace with ease.

There are two more aspects to mention here. One regards the level of noise generated and power consumption. The machine’s integrated motor is far from being noisy, and during a walking workout, your cadence can barely be heard. Evidently, if running at full speed, your cadence will be heard, and the unit will become louder, but it’s not loud enough to cover the sound of your TV on a moderate volume setting.

The second and last aspect regards the unit’s power consumption. The motor is not exactly a very powerful one, so you won’t have to worry about high electricity bills even if you use the machine daily.

Console

As we’ve mentioned above, the Sunny Health & Fitness SF-T7857 treadmill is equipped with a basic console. It features three small LED displays which indicate time, distance, speed, and calories. The distance and calories burned metrics share the same display (the one to the left), and will be shown alternatively for a few seconds each. The machine does not have any pulse sensors and the console cannot read your pulse. So, in case you need to keep an eye on your heart rate during your exercising routines, you will have to use a separate device.

The machine’s console unit does not have any preset programs, nor it has Bluetooth or online connectivity. However, it offers the possibility to select goals for time, distance, and calories burned. When a goal is selected, the console will countdown from the selected value until it reaches zero.

The console unit is very easy to use. It only has five buttons. The Start/Stop buttons allow you to pause and resume your workout, and also confirm a goal setting. The Mode button gives you the possibility to enter set-up for goal creation, and of course, the Up/Down arrows cover the speed adjustment function, or the increase/decrease value for goal selection.

There are two other notable functions that we must mention here. One is the Lubrication Reminder. The belt of the machine requires lubrication every 188 miles so the console will notify you when this is needed. There’s also Sleep function to which the console will enter after 10 minutes of inactivity on the machine.

Assembly and Maintenance

The machine’s deck comes pre-assembled. Therefore, you only need to attach the front masts, the console, the front handlebar, and the side support bars. This shouldn’t take more than an hour. All the tools required for it are included. Also, the manual provides step-by-step instructions and suggestive schematics.

In terms of maintenance, the belt must be lubricated before the first use. A bottle of lubricant is included. After that, it should require lubrication after each 188 miles traveled on the machine. Of course, the belt should be kept clean, and from time to time it is recommended to check for loose bolts and parts.

The Pros

  • Sturdy machine – can support users up to 295 lbs;
  • Fairly small footprint, great for apartment use;
  • Low deck profile (~4.5″);
  • Adjustable stabilizers on the rear base;
  • Transport wheels on the front base;
  • Front handlebars for several grip possibilities;
  • Long side support bars, great for physiotherapy;
  • Shock absorption elements on each side of the deck;

  • Easy to use console with 3 LED displays for time, distance, calories, and pulse;
  • Goal settings for time, distance, and calories;
  • Lubrication reminder function;
  • Easy to assemble;
  • Little maintenance required.

The Cons

  • No workout programs;
  • No pulse reading function;
  • No incline.

Summary

The Sunny Health & Fitness SF-T7857 is a basic treadmill designed for walking and recovery training. It is equipped with a 2.5 HP motor which offers a speed range between 0.6 and 5.0 MPH. It features a basic LED display console with goal settings for time, distance, and calories. As opposed to the other Sunny walking treadmills, it has the long sidebars which are great for physiotherapy. In all, it’s a fairly decent machine for light cardio training, recovery training, stamina development, muscle toning, and weight loss.
