Frame & deck

The Sunny Health & Fitness SF-T7515 smart treadmill features a steel frame, durable enough to support users up to 250 lbs (113 kg). All its steel bars are coated with a corrosion-resistant paint finish, the main color being white, with the Sunny logo painted red. The machine’s construction also features several ABS components, the most notable being the side rail covers of the deck, the cover of the motor, and the covers of the joint between the console masts and the base frame.

The unit is fairly heavy. With the frame fully assembled, it weighs more than 120 lbs. Therefore, it offers plenty of stability, despite the fact that it is a small machine. Plus, its stability is enhanced by the adjustable stabilizers on its bases.

Although this Sunny treadmill is fairly heavy and may require two persons to carry and assemble, once it is assembled, its relocation shouldn’t be too difficult. The rear part of the front base has two wheels which facilitate its transport.

Since it’s a treadmill for walking and light jogging, the Sunny SF-T7515 is not an extremely large one. Its fully assembled footprint is 64.5″L x 28″W (164 x 71 cm). It’s also recommended to leave at least two feet of clearance on the sides and at least three feet of clearance at the rear of the machine, for safe operation.

On the other hand, its deck is foldable. You can lift it up and lock it in an upright position, and this way, the machine’s length remains approx. 40″ (101 cm). The complete folded dimensions of the unit are 40″L x 28″W x 55.5″H (101 x 71 x 140 cm).

The deck features a hydraulic, “soft-drop” mechanism, similar to the one used by the Schwinn MY17 870. This mechanism is designed to assist you with lowering the deck and prevent any accidents or damage to the deck during unfolding.

The Sunny SF-T7515 offers a walking/jogging platform of 49.5″L x 16.5″W (126 x 42 cm). In other words, it offers plenty of exercise space for users up to 6’2″ (188 cm). Taller users should also be able to use this machine, but they may have to reduce their stride.

Although the deck doesn’t have an advanced cushioning system such as the ProShox on the ProForm 905 CST for example, it does have several shock absorption points which alleviate quite an important part of the walking impact. Differently put, walking or jogging on this treadmill is considerably more forgiving on the joints than walking or jogging on asphalt or concrete.

Incline & step-up height

The Sunny Health & Fitness SF-T7515 is equipped with a motorized incline system. In other words, the incline adjustment is digital and can only be adjusted from the console, or from the controls built-in the left handlebar. Also, some of the preset programs involve incline, so if you decide to use one of these programs during your workout, the machine will automatically adjust the ramp of the deck.

There are 12 incline levels available, from 0% to 12% (or 0° – 6.9°). The incline increments are 1%. There are gradual adjustment controls on the left corner of the console, or, as we’ve mentioned above, in the left handlebar. The console also has quick incline controls for the 3%, 6%, 9%, and 12% positions.

The machine’s step-up height is approx. 10″ (25 cm). By adjusting the incline to its maximum point, the front of the deck should gain a few extra inches in height. Therefore, it’s recommended to place and use the machine in a room with a ceiling that is at least 15″ higher than your own height.

Motor

The Sunny Health & Fitness SF-T7515 is a walking treadmill and is equipped with a light capacity motor of only 1 HP peak power. But this motor is enough for walking and jogging workouts. Also, according to the several user reports, it doesn’t overheat and performs well even when running at its maximum speed.

Evidently, since it’s a motorized treadmill, it requires being connected to a power circuit. A 3-foot power cord is supplied with the unit, and the connector for it is at the front base of the deck. In case you’re wondering, this treadmill doesn’t have an incline system, so you cannot adjust the angle.

The motor provides speeds up to 8.0 MPH (12 km/h). The default speed is 1.0 MPH but up from that, you can adjust the speed in increments of 0.1 MPH. Therefore, you can easily match the belt’s speed to your pace, in order to benefit from a comfortable walking.

Just as for incline, there are speed controls on the console and built-in the right handlebar. Also, the console provides quick speed controls for the 2 MPH, 4 MPH, 6 MPH, and 8 MPH speed settings.

The motor itself doesn’t generate much noise when in use. Also, since you’ll mostly be walking on this treadmill, the cadence noise will be minimal.

Since it’s not a very powerful motor, it also doesn’t consume much. Therefore, you won’t have to worry about a considerable cost increase of the energy bill.

Console

The console equipped on the Sunny Health & Fitness SF-T7515 can be classified as a mid-range one. To begin with, it has an LCD display with blue LED backlight which considerably improves its readability. Its divided into several sub-sections and shows multiple workout metrics at once, so you don’t have to use a scan function to alternate them. It tracks time, distance, calories, pulse, speed, and incline.

There are goal settings available for time, distance, and calories. In other words, you can select a target for each one of these metrics, and the console will begin to count down from that selected value until it reaches zero, as your walk on the machine.

Although the console is Bluetooth enabled, it cannot read your pulse via an HR chest strap transmitter. In order to benefit from a pulse reading, and use one of the HR-based programs, you have to hold on to the sensors integrated into the side handlebars.

With regards to the Bluetooth function, the console can be synced to your phone, and you can take phone calls on the treadmill’s speakers while you still exercise. However, the unit is not iFit capable, and you cannot use the Bluetooth connection in order to stream workout data on any online fitness site or app.

The console offers 12 workout programs. They all automatically adjust the speed of the belt, and some of them adjust the incline as well. There also are three user profiles available. Therefore, you can modify a program of your choice by adjusting all its 10 segments and save it for later use.

There is also a Body Mass Index feature available. The BMI feature is used to test the relation between your height and weight. For it, you will have to input personal data such as height, weight, gender, and age.

In terms of other, non-fitness features, we can mention the unit’s sound system, the tablet holder, and the two accessory or bottle trays molder into the console dashboard. The sound system consists of two speakers which provide a fairly decent sound. It’s compatible with most smartphones and MP3 players. You can use the Bluetooth connection to listen to the music on your phone, or you can use the audio jack input. The console makes available pause/play, track selection, and volume controls.

The tablet/phone holder is placed between the two sets of controls on the console. It’s pretty large and can hold any tablet. And finally, the trays on each side of the console can accommodate most water bottles or various other accessories.

Assembly & Maintenance

The treadmill basically comes fully assembled, but folded into a flat position. You will have to unfold the console masts, secure them in the upright position via the included screws, and add the protective joint covers. The console also needs to be secured in usage position. This shouldn’t take more than 30 min. All the assembly instructions are provided by the manual, and a basic toolkit for assembly is included as well.

For maintenance, the deck requires periodic lubrication. Keeping the belt clean is also important, in order to prevent any fibers or other objects to be caught into the motor. Other than these, it’s recommended to periodically check for loose parts and bolts and re-center the belt if necessary.
