Frame construction

The Pyhigh S7 is a heavy-duty indoor cycling trainer, designed to support any spin workout. Evidently, its frame is made of thick steel bars, with precision-welded joint points that render a superior overall sturdiness; the bike is rated for a weight capacity of 330 lbs. All the frame bars are coated with a corrosion-resistant paint finish, with the exception of the handlebar post and seat post which have a chrome finish. The colors used for the frame are black and white, these being the only colors for this bike (at least for now).

Of course, the bike’s frame integrates several ABS parts as well. However, these only have a protective role. Among them, we can count the cover of the belt drive, the cover of the brake pad and a few other small covers.

This Pyhigh exercise bike is considerably heavy. With the frame fully set up, it weighs over 100 lbs, which is more than two times the weight of a mountain bike. All this weight results in a high stability; you can be sure that it won’t rock under you even during the fastest spin workouts. On top of that, both base bars of the unit are equipped with adjustable stabilizers featuring large rubber pads, which also deliver a superior grip on the floor.

Once it is assembled, the bike shouldn’t be too difficult to move. Its front base is equipped with a set of large silicone wheels. Therefore, by lifting it from the seat or the rear base and using the wheels, you will only be handling approx. 1/3 of its total weight.

The bike isn’t extremely large. It is approx. 42.5″ (108 cm) long, and 22.5″ (57 cm) wide. However, it is recommended to assign a usage space for it of at least 75″L x 60″ (190 x 152 cm), to be able to execute any spin exercise without hindrance. Also, the highest point of the bike is given by the handlebar. When set to its highest position, its top reaches approx. 44.5″ (113 cm) above floor level.

Seat & handlebars

Although the Pyhigh S7 indoor cycling trainer is a bike made for spin workouts, it comes with a considerably more comfortable seat than other spin bikes. Its saddle can be compared to the one on the Efitment IC031. It is a bit wider than the average slim spin saddle, and integrates a thick layer of padding, especially in its rear section. There are two shock absorption springs at its rear which also improve cushioning. Its upholstery is made of a durable vinyl material, and its central area features a fairly large groove designed to improve breathability and promote a healthy blood circulation during seated workouts.

On top of all that, the bike’s saddle has a standard connection system to its slider. This being said, compatible replacements for it are widely available.

The bike’s seat offers 4-way adjustability (up, down, forward, backward). Its upright post offers approx. 8″ (20 cm) of adjustment, from 32″ (81 cm) above floor level, to 40″ (102 cm). Plus, its horizontal slider provides a few inches of front-to-back travel. So, these being said, the bike can accommodate users between 5’0″ (153 cm) and 6’5″ (196 cm) with no problem, allowing a complete range of motion.

This Pyhigh indoor cycling bike includes a multi-grip handlebar. It’s actually quite a plus that it has drop-down grips; many other spin bikes do not offer this feature. It also has integrated aero bars, which can also double as a tablet shelf.

The whole handlebar assembly is covered by a layer of rubber material in order to provide a secure grip. Its top sidebars integrate metallic pulse sensors. Just as the seat, the handlebar is 4-way adjustable. It offers an upright adjustment span of approx. 4.5″ (11.4 cm), from 40″ (101.6 cm) above floor level, to 44.5″ (113 cm).

Resistance system

The Pyhigh S7 exercise bike is equipped with a friction resistance system. This means it does not need to be connected to a power source. Also, the resistance adjustment is done manually, the included console does not control the pedaling difficulty in any way.

The bike’s resistance system consists of a large felt pad, attached under the main frame tube, and connected to the tension dial on top of this tube. Therefore, in order to increase the resistance, you have to turn the dial clockwise, so that the brake pad will apply more friction to the flywheel. Evidently, just as for any other bike with a friction resistance, this pad will wear out after a while and will need replacement.

The tension dial doesn’t have any pre-determined resistance settings marked on it. You basically tighten it until you obtain the desired pedaling difficulty. It also functions as an emergency brake. By pressing it down, you can immediately stop the flywheel from spinning. This may actually be necessary especially when pedaling at a high speed, as the pedals continue to spin for as long as the flywheel is spinning.

Drive system

The first element from the bike’s drive system that we must mention here, is the flywheel. The Pyhigh S7 indoor cycling bike comes with an extra-heavy flywheel which weighs 48 lbs (21.7 kg). It has a perimeter-weighted design, which enables it to deliver a very high inertia, which is great for spinning.

Since the bike’s drive system is simple, without any derailleur as road bikes, or without a drum brake, pedaling in reverse is possible. However, you cannot coast on the bike as the pedals move for as long as the flywheel is moving.

The bike’s transmission uses a durable rubber belt which is concealed by the ABS cover for extra protection. Since it’s a belt drive, it does not need periodic lubrication. It also delivers a smooth and quiet motion, and drive-related vibration is almost inexistent.

The Pyhigh S7 integrates a heavy-duty crankset with solid steel arms and metallic pedals. Its whole assembly is designed to support the user in full standing up position, as long as they don’t exceed the 330 lbs (150 kg) weight limit of the bike.

The pedals have a non-slip design. They are equipped with toe cages for extra thrusting power during high-intensity spin workouts. They do not have SPD clips for spin shoes, but their threads are standard 9/16, so compatible options are widely available.

Exercise meter

The Pyhigh S7 includes a fitness meter featuring a 6-panel LCD display. It tracks time, distance, speed, RPM, calories burned, and pulse. It does not have any preset programs, but you can set up goals for time, distance, and calories. To increase/decrease the value of a workout goal you can use the side Up/Down buttons, while the center Enter button allows you to select the desired value. Also, the Enter button has a Reset function. By pressing and holding it for a few seconds, all the values are reset to zero.

The meter is not telemetric. Therefore, in order to benefit from a pulse reading during your workout, you have to hold on to the metallic sensors built-in the side bars of the bike. The unit cannot read your pulse through a Polar or ANT+ heart rate chest strap transmitter.

The exercise meter is battery-powered. It starts up when you begin pedaling, but also has an auto-shutdown function which initiates after a few minutes of inactivity on the bike.

Assembly & Maintenance

The core frame of the bike comes pre-assembled. Therefore, you only need to attach the base stabilizers, the seat and handlebar posts, the seat, the handlebars, the fitness meter, and the console. All the tools needed for the assembly are included. The manual provides step-by-step assembly instructions, so the task shouldn’t take more than 30-40 minutes.

Since the bike has a belt-drive, its transmission doesn’t need lubrication. The brake pad may require a bit of silicone lubrication if it emits a loud squeaking noise when in contact with the flywheel. Other than these, you should keep the bike clean, and periodically check for loose or broken parts.
