Ironmaster offers several types of free weights, all top quality, most of them being some of the bestselling ones that you can find on the market at the moment. But the best free weights from Ironmaster are clearly the Quick-Lock adjustable dumbbells.
As their name suggests, they have a pretty quick adjustment system. They come with a space-saving stand, and one of the best parts about them is that they’re upgradable.
In this post we’ll refer to the Ironmaster Quick-Lock adjustable dumbbells item part number 75. In other words, this set includes 2 dumbbells, weight plates to provide a total weight of 75 lbs for each dumbbell, and of course the stand.

Overall construction
When it comes to the construction of these dumbbells, the most important aspect to be mentioned here is that they don’t contain any plastic, fragile parts. They’re all-metal, including the weight plates, axle and locking screws.
The weight plates are made of cast iron, but unlike classic dumbbells, they’re square. This 
means you can safely place the assembled dumbbell just about anywhere, without the fear of it rolling over or falling off the stand. All weight plates have the same standard size, 6.5″ x 6.5″ (16.5 x 16.5 cm). They feature a Satin Black coating finish which is not exactly the most durable, but shouldn’t come off easily unless you drop the weights frequently. On the good side though, the paint doesn’t stain your hands or clothing. Each plate has its weight inscribed on it, both in lbs and kg. And finally, they’re made to easily stack on each end of the handle.
The handles feature a chrome finish, and a knurled, rather rough surface. Although this surface is made to supply a sure grip, for a non-seasoned user it may feel a bit rough. Therefore, the use of gloves may be indicated. The width of the grip in-between the weight plates is 6.5″ (16.5 cm), offering plenty of room, while its diameter is 1.25 (3.1 cm). This being said, these dumbbells are not meant to be used with Olympic, standard weight plates, as the ones with 1″ (2.5 cm) holes won’t fit, while the ones with 2″ (5 cm) holes will be too loose.
The handles are actually metallic pipes, durable enough to support weights of over 200 lbs. (90 kg). The locking screws go into the handles, through the weight plates, once you’ve stacked the desired amount on each side. They require a bit of tightening, in order to hold the weight plates in place. Once tightened, the plates won’t rattle, overall the dumbbells offering a really sturdy and stable feel.
The locking screws feature a durable chrome finish, just as the handles. The diameter of a locking screw disc is 4″ (10 cm). Adjustment system and increments
First of all, with the Ironmaster 75 lbs Quick-Lock adjustable dumbbells set, you will receive the following weight plates:

- 24 x 5 lbs (2.26 kg)
The handle itself weighs 5 lbs (2.26 kg), while the locking screws have a weight of 2.5 lbs (1.13 kg) each. Therefore, the starting weight for each dumbbell without any weight plates 
attached, is 10 lbs (4.5 kg). These being said, your adjustment increments will be 2.5, 5 and 10 lbs. (1.13, 2.26, 4.53 kg). Differently put, each adjustable dumbbell will replace 9 non-adjustable ones, with even weight on each end. Of course, these dumbbells offer the possibility for off-set adjustments. In case you want a superior challenge for doing curls for example, you can add an extra plate on one side of each dumbbell (or more).
Even though the adjustment system isn’t as convenient as for the Bowflex or PowerPak ones, it’s still better than for classic models. For adjusting weight, you simply stack the desired amount of plates on one side, then lock in the screw. It shouldn’t take more than 30 seconds to complete the adjustment of one dumbbell.
One last important aspect that must be mentioned here, is the fact that these dumbbells are upgradable. On the other hand, they do come with a metallic stand, which can actually hold an amount of weight plates up to 320 lbs. The stand features a really small footprint, its fully assembled dimensions being 19″L x 14.5″W x 26″H (48.2 x 36.8 x 66 cm). It’s simply perfect for anyone who lacks the space for a proper home gym. You can fit it even in a small room or space with no problem. It rests on rubberized feet, for maximum stability and to prevent any damage to the floors.
The stand is designed to accommodate a considerable amount of Ironmaster weight plates, many more than the 28 ones supplied with this set. It’s easy to assemble and the tools for its assembly are included. The whole assembly shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes.
