Frame construction

The HARISON B7 upright bike features a durable frame made of steel tubing with ABS side covers for the drive and resistance elements. All the steel tubes in its construction are coated with a rust-resistance paint finish, black in color, this being the only color available for this model.

The fully assembled bike isn’t extremely large. It is approx. 35.4″ (90 cm) long and 20.4″ (52 cm) wide; therefore, it can fit pretty well even into a smaller room or apartment. It is recommended, though, to leave at least two feet of clearance all around it for safe usage.

Despite its small footprint, the bike offers excellent stability as it has a low center of gravity. It is not extremely heavy, but does weigh approx. 55 lbs (25 kg) which is quite a bit more than the weight of a road bike. Plus, its rear base bar is equipped with adjustable stabilizers which give you the possibility to perfectly level it on any type of floor.

The front base of the bike is equipped with transport wheels. Thus, once the unit is fully assembled, it can be easily moved to its storage place.

Seat and handlebars

The HARISON B7 upright bike is equipped with a fairly large saddle designed for comfort. It is 10.24″ (26 cm) wide, and 10.24″ (26 cm) long, offering plenty of contact surface. Its top is made of high-density foam with a longitudinal groove for extra breathability.

The seat offers four-way adjustability (up, down, front, back). Its upright post has several adjustment positions while the horizontal slider provides a few extra inches of front to back adjustment. This being said, the bike can accommodate users between 5’1″ and 6’5″ (155 – 196 cm) allowing a complete leg extension and range of motion. It is also rated for a user weight capacity of 300 lbs (136 kg).

The seat is easily adjustable. Both its upright bar and horizontal slider are equipped with large knobs easy to grip, pull, and turn. Thus, adjusting the seat to your own size takes less than a minute.

The bike is equipped with a 2-grip handlebar. Its side long grips are covered by a layer of rubber material to provide a secure grip. They also integrate pulse sensors, so if you hold on to them, the console can track your pulse rate.

It is important to mention that the bike’s handlebars are non-adjustable. They attach directly to the front upright tube of the bike via two bolts and their angle can be adjusted. Also, the height of the front mast cannot be adjusted either.

Resistance and drive

The HARISON B7 upright bike features a manual magnetic resistance system. This being said, you don’t have to connect it to a power source, and its console does not control the resistance automatically.

The resistance system consists of an internal magnetic brake attached to the flywheel system and connected to the tension knob on the front mast through a steel cable. By turning the knob, the magnets move closer or farther from the flywheel, increasing or decreasing the resistance. The resistance elements do no touch, so there is no friction, which leads to a very smooth pedaling motion.

The bike makes available 14 levels of resistance, while most other models in this price range only offer 8 difficulty levels. Needless to say, this improves the micro-adjustment possibilities. The first three levels provide a pretty light pedaling difficulty which makes them great for recovery training. The 4-6 levels are for advanced aerobic exercise and burning calories, the 7-10 levels are great for toning leg muscles and improving strength and stamina, while the 11-14 levels offer the possibility to undergo a high-intensity training.

The HARISON B7 upright bike features a mid-range 22 lbs (10 kg) flywheel which has a perimeter-weighted construction in order to provide a bit of extra inertia and a more consistent pedaling motion. The flywheel is bi-directional; this means you can pedal in reverse if you want, and when pedaling in reverse, the console will continue to monitor your distance, pulse, calories, etc. However, coasting on the bike is not possible. The pedals will continue to spin for as long as the internal flywheel is spinning.

The bike is equipped with a sturdy crankset featuring crank arms similar to a road bike. But nonetheless, this is not a spin bike. Therefore, standing up on the pedals is not recommended.

The pedals have a weighted design; therefore, if you remove your feet from them, they will always turn face-up, allowing you to easily re-place your feet on them. They have a non-slip surface and adjustable straps for extra foot stability.

The bike’s drive system uses a heavy-duty poly-v belt. This being said, the pedaling motion is very smooth and quiet. Also, you don’t have to take the ABS covers apart to lubricate the transmission as it would be the case for a chain drive.

Console and accessories

As we’ve mentioned above, the HARISON B7 upright bike includes the same console and tablet/bottle holder as the B8 model. The console unit features an LCD display with extra-large digits, easy to read. It tracks time, distance, total distance, speed, RPM, calories, and pulse. The console is not telemetric, though. It can only read your pulse through the integrated sensors. It cannot communicate with Polar or other types of HR transmitters.

The console unit doesn’t have preset programs or online connectivity but does have goal settings for time, distance, and calories. Its operation is quite straightforward. In only has three buttons. The Mode button allows you to select one of the workout metrics to be shown on the display all the time, or select the Scan Mode which rotates all the values. The Enter button covers the goal-setting function, and the Reset button allows you to clear all the values to zero.

The unit is battery-powered. It requires two AA batteries which are included. It starts up when you begin pedaling and also has a sleep mode to which it will enter if there is no activity on the bike for several minutes.

In terms of accessories, the HARISON B7 includes large tablet support which attaches to the back of the console, the support being above the console unit. This accessory also integrates a bottle holder compartment which can hold any type of hydration bottle. And finally, another small shelf is integrated at the bottom of the console; this accessory can serve as a phone holder.

Assembly and Maintenance

The main body of the bike comes pre-assembled. You only need to attach the two base bars, the seat post, the seat, the front mast, the handlebars, the console, and the pedals. This shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes. A basic tool set is included and the manual provides pretty clear assembly instructions.

Once the bike is assembled, you don’t have to worry too much about maintenance. The internal parts are pre-lubricated and they shouldn’t need any lubrication for a long period of time. The belt transmission doesn’t require lubrication. You only have to keep the bike clean and check for loose bolts and parts from time to time.
